Fly Tying 101

Fly Tying is the art of imitating life.  Actually we tend to think of it as being more a craft than an art because the ultimate goal of tying a fly is to get it wet and eaten it as soon as possible. If we were to look at our creations as art, we might feel just awful about this. However the feeling you will receive from hooking a fish on a fly that you tied yourself far surpasses the feeling of accomplishment you feel at the vise.
At The Angler’s Net, we take great pride in being able to provide a place of sharing fly fishing knowledge from around the globe. Basically, we want to share what we have learned and learn from you at the same time so all our experiences on the water will be that much more rewarding.
These are some of the beginning techniques we use at The Angler’s Net to create our flies. This will hopefully allow the beginner and advanced tier to further their knowledge of our great sport. The techniques discussed are not the only way to get things done, just some guidelines for getting started and the way that we have learned from others. We hope that these techniques will allow more people to learn from and enjoy our fly tying videos.  Many pictures and words will have videos attached to them to demonstrate the technique involved when applicable.  If you see a word that is underlined or a picture, click it once with your mouse to see the technique involved.

Tip of the Week

Connect tippetts to leaders quickly and effectively with the double surgeon's knot. Basically 2 overhand knots with the tag ends facing away from each other.
