We created this site in order to build a web based community based on sharing the passion and enjoyment of fly fishing and fly tying. We are a pair of former fishing guides who love being on the water, making videos, tying flies, and creating and sharing the memories of the pursuit of game fish. We love constantly learning about the waters that support the fish that we target as well as learning about new flies, and methods. We strive to get more and more out of our time on and around the water.
Nushranger (aka WRH):
I grew up on the South Shore of Massachusetts fishing local ponds and streams for largemouth bass, pickerel with the odd trout and schooly striper added to the mix. I didn’t have access to a boat so my salt water fishing was limited.
I went to college in western Massachusetts and began to fly-fish in the waters around there. Went to Alaska with two college friends and got totally into fly-fishing. This was nurtured by spending two summers on the Agulukpak River, as a state park employee. I ended up fishing the river every evening for 4-5 hours usually by myself.
I then guided for an Alaskan lodge for the next four summers. I spent one winter in New Zealand as a graduation present to myself. The following winter I visited my friend, Bob White, who guided in Argentina for ten weeks and did a bunch of fishing there. During this time I fished out west in Montana, BC, and Oregon for my introduction to steelhead fishing on the Deschutes. I worked one year for Thomas and Thomas in technical sales until the company was sold and I got canned. During this time I fished weekly in CT (mostly the Farmington and occasionally the Housatonic) and made two trips to Canada chasing Atlantics. I then had a period of ~10 years when I didn't fish much due to an accident and then graduate school. Now I live in upstate NY and fish year round for a variety of fish. My home waters are the Salmon and Hudson Rivers. I love making trips to the Delaware system for the very tough wild fish found there. Other fish that make up the yearly cycle here are carp, smallmouth bass, trout, salmon, steelhead and lake run browns.
Shaq
I grew up fishing a small lake in central New Hampshire that my folks had a cabin on for Bass and panfish and the local ponds and rivers of Northern Massachusetts. While attending college in upstate New York, I had the good fortune to have trout streams within easy reach and I learned to fly fish there for stocked browns and wild brookies. I also learned to fish the Great Lakes tributaries and the famous Delaware River system at this time and I credit these 2 challenging places for molding my fishing technique and fly tying and they continue to do so. After College, I worked the counter and back room of a major outfitter outside of Boston, Massachusetts. In the summer of 1998, I signed on with an outfitter servicing the Wood-Titchik National Forest region of Alaska's Bristol Bay and guided fly fishermen for all five pacific salmon species, Arctic Char, and of course, Rainbow Trout. Upon my return to the lower 48, I started guiding the waters of the southern Adirondacks and Capital District of New York State and continued that for five years. I started fishing with Nushranger 2 years ago and we started filming our trips for our enjoyment. The idea for this website grew out of those first sessions on the water and during our long car rides for Delaware trout and Great Lakes Steelhead.
